Director - Advertising

Job Description:

A director on the global brand identity team is responsible for leading American Express visual & audio identity initiatives, including card design, retail design and corporate identity programs (logos, visual identity, etc). He/she partners closely with business units across the company to ensure the brand identity is considered and embedded in all key product marketing and servicing initiatives. The director is also responsible for research and development of new payment form factor innovations (e.g. clear card technology, Centurion, etc.) for application across the business.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Strategic thought leadership insuring alignment between business objectives and brand objectives

• Leading card design initiatives, including setting creative direction, managing the creative process and directing prototype production

• Creative thought leadership focused on brand / design innovation using new form factors and channels

• Deploying and managing brand strategy and guidelines internally and through regional agency teams to ensure global brand consistency

• Communicating, educating and monitoring compliance of international brand and card design initiatives

• Manage all corporate brand trademark assets (blue box logo, card design elements, etc.

• Managing, enhancing, and elevating AXP agency relationship(s)

Required Qualifications Experience in leading design and visual identity, including the ability to apply design/brand principles, direct the design process and evaluate creative effectiveness

The candidate will have the ability to translate business needs/objectives into effective design solutions which support the American Express masterbrand strategy, product and communication architecture

The successful candidate will have confidence in utilizing appropriate communication styles and relationship management methods in order to influence without direct authority, drive to consensus and resolve conflict. The individual should have the ability to drive results in a matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders.

People leadership experience

Working knowledge of color science, printed matter and print production coupled with pre-press standards and practices is preferred.

International business experience is a plus
